Menu Project - Sketches and Research

These are the sketches I did for the logo that I designed.

These are the websites that I consulted for ideas for my menu project.

Research and Development for Poster Project

My final version of my poster project.

I really didn't do much research for this project. If anything, I looked for fonts to use at www.dafont.com. Other than that, this was the one sketch I did. Please excuse the coffee stains. After the first critique, I just tweaked it in Illustrator.

Inspiration For My Logo Design

My biggest inspiration for me logo was the wooden cuckoo clock. The Black Forest region of Germany is where these clocks originated. I love the intricacy of the woodwork in these clocks. They are beautiful.

Typography Post #18

This is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

You have to be careful about the placement of type on objects because you might accidentally discredit your company.

Typography Post #17

This is an example where kerning is quite important.

Once again, you have to watch your kerning or you might accidentally make an R rated product.

Typography Post #16

I think I am more of a fan of the design of the store more than the type, but I still think the type works really well here. The way the "LIFE IS SWEET" is punched out and lit from behind really adds a cool element to the overall design.

This image works really well overall. The type looks like it is hand drawn, which I think ads a really cool element to the overall look of this piece. The colors and images all work well together.

Typography Post #15

This is an example of a very simple, classy logo. The kerning in the type is beautiful, and the typeface adds to the whole classy feel.

I love the this design. The colors, images, and text all work really well together.

Typography Post #14

I love the use of the thin, sans serif typefaces mixed with the beautiful color choices. The use of line also plays a large role in this design.

I really enjoy this packaging. It's complex, yet simple. The type works well combined with the background color/images.

Typography Post #13

I'm a big fan of incorporating text with images, and I think this is a beautiful example of how it can work really well. The combination of the rich brown colors with the text and image works really well.

I love the use of the sans serif typeface in all caps. It gets you're attention, and the use of color to highlight important areas works really well.

Typography Post #12

I really like this typography. Even though some of the characters are a bit cut off, it is still easy to read. It's bold and makes a statement.

I really enjoy how you can see images through the type. The little script separating the title of the novel and the author's name works really well.

Typography Post #11

There are a few problems with this. The first thing that sticks out is the horrible position of the hyphen. The other is the incorrect grammar.

Typography Post #10

Here is an example of very poor T ypeography. There isn't much I can say about this. It pretty much speaks for itself.

Typography Post #9

Well, obviously there are some problems here (even if they are on purpose). The kerning is either too spaced or too close. The same can be said for the leading.

Typography Post #8

This typography just is not working. They are using two different script typefaces and a third typeface for the price, three different sized fonts, and the lines do not line up correctly. Oh, and one again the leading is horrible.

Typography Post #7

This is an example of poor typography for many reasons. The leading is horrible, nothing lines up correctly, and I'm pretty sure that's Comic Sans.

Sources For My Giambattista Bodoni Presentation

Typography Post #6

This is an example of good typography for a few reasons. The different sized and styles of typefaces makes this piece very interesting. The colors work very well together and the images definitely make it ore interesting to read.

Typography Post #5

This is an example of poor
design and typography for a few reasons. The first and most apparent problem I have with this is the use of the argyle background. It is very distracting and overcomplicates the image. Also, the graphic in the center is pixelated and the drop shadows look horrible.

Typography Post #4

Typography post #3

This is an example of good typography for many reasons. It uses everyday objects to help create and illustrate words. This makes the image so much more interesting than just having plain text.
